OBJECTIVES
INTRODUCTION
The CIS is a product of the following projects:
The Pearl River ("Zhu Jiang") System is China's third longest river, after the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers. The Pearl River has three principal tributaries, namely the Xijiang River, Beijiang River and Dongjiang River. It also receives input from several other small tributaries within the Pearl River Delta. Four of these tributaries, namely the Humen, Jiaomen, Hongqimen and Hengmen discharge into the Lingingyan which is called the "Pearl River Estuary".
Is average annual flow rate is approximately 10,000 cubic meters per second (m3/sec). It is 2,214 km long and drains an area of 453,690 km2.
