Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Under the influence of the anticyclone aloft, it is generally fine over southeastern China.

The area of low pressure near the Philippines has intensified into a tropical depression. At 10 a.m., the tropical depression was centred about 70 kilometres east-southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across Luzon, entering the South China Sea and intensify gradually. Meanwhile, Typhoon Talim was centred about 990 kilometres east-southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across the western North Pacific and intensify gradually, moving in the generally direction of the vicinity of Zhejiang afterwards.

Mainly fine and very hot. Isolated showers and thunderstorms later. Light winds.

Outlook : Very hot with sunny periods and a few showers in the next couple of days.

    Weather Situation:
    The area of low pressure near the Philippines has intensified into a tropical depression. At 10 a.m., the tropical depression with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 14.2 degrees north, 121.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across Luzon, entering the South China Sea and intensify gradually.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    An area of low pressure near the Philippines has intensified into a Tropical Depression with central pressure 1000 hectopascals. At 120000 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one four point three degrees north (14.3 N) one two one point six degrees east (121.6 E) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
