Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An easterly airstream is affecting the coast of Guangdong gradually.

At 8 p.m., the tropical depression near the Philippines was centred about 140 kilometres west-northwest of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour crossing the South China Sea and intensifying gradually. Meanwhile, Typhoon Talim was centred about 690 kilometres east-southeast of Taibei. It is forecast to intensify gradually and move northwest or west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the East China Sea.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy with a few showers and some haze. Temperatures will range between 27 and 32 degrees. Temperatures over the New Territories will be a couple of degrees higher than that over the urban areas. Sunny intervals during the day. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Very hot with sunny periods on Thursday. There will be squally showers in the latter part of this week.

    Weather Situation:
    At 7 p.m., the tropical depression near the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 14.8 degrees north, 119.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 18 kilometres per hour entering the South China Sea and intensifying gradually. Meanwhile, Typhoon Talim with maximum sustained winds of about 140 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 22.5 degrees north, 128.0 degrees east. It is forecast to intensify gradually and move northwest or west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the East China Sea.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 121200 UTC, Tropical Depression near the Philippines with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one four point nine degrees north (14.9 N) one one nine point six degrees east (119.6 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
