Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The anticyclone aloft is gradually dominating southern China.

Severe Typhoon Doksuri has made landfall over Vietnam. At 1 p.m., Doksuri was centred about 270 kilometres northwest of Da Nang. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across Indochina Peninsula and weaken gradually. Meanwhile, Severe Typhoon Talim was centred about 660 kilometres west-southwest of Kagoshima. It is forecast to move northeast at about 10 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea towards Japan.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly cloudy with isolated showers. Very hot with sunny periods in the afternoon. Moderate easterly winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine and very hot in the next couple of days. Sunny periods early next week.

Weather Situation:
At 1 p.m., Severe Typhoon Doksuri with maximum sustained winds of about 165 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 17.8 degrees north, 106.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across Indochina Peninsula and weaken gradually. Meanwhile, Severe Typhoon Talim with maximum sustained winds of about 155 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 28.3 degrees north, 124.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast at about 10 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea towards Japan.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 150300 UTC, Severe Typhoon Talim (1718) with central pressure 950 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two eight point three degrees north (28.3 N) one two four point eight degrees east (124.8 E) and is forecast to move northeast at about 5 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 85 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 180 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 120 nautical miles.

At 150300 UTC, Severe Typhoon Doksuri (1719) with central pressure 945 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one seven point eight degrees north (17.8 N) one zero six point seven degrees east (106.7 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 15 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 90 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 150 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 63 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 240 nautical miles.

They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
