Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of Guangdong.

At 8 p.m., the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea was centred at about 140 kilometres north-northeast of Da Nang. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour towards Vietnam.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy with one or two rain patches at first. Sunny periods tomorrow. Temperatures will range between 28 and 32 degrees. Fresh east to northeasterly winds, strong offshore and on high ground at first, gusty at times.

Outlook : Sunny periods in the following couple of days. Slightly cooler in the latter part of this week.

    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 8 p.m., the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 17.1 degrees north, 108.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour towards Vietnam.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 091200 UTC, the tropical depression over the central part of South China Sea with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one seven point three degrees north (17.3 N) one zero eight point eight degrees east (108.8 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
