Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An anticyclone aloft is bringing generally fine weather to southern China. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon affecting the northern part of Guangdong is extending southwards.

At noon, the tropical depression to the east of the Philippines was centred about 580 kilometres northeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 22 kilometres per hour towards Luzon and intensify gradually.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly fine. Very hot and dry in the afternoon. Becoming cloudy with one or two rain patches tonight. Moderate northeasterly winds, freshening tonight.

Outlook : Cooler morning in the next couple of days. Weather deteriorating with heavy rain and squalls on Sunday and Monday.

Warnings:
Gale force winds in Nan'ao. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Shanwei, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

Weather Situation:
The northeast monsoon will affect the south China coastal waters gradually. At noon, the tropical depression to the east of the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 17.5 degrees north, 125.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 22 kilometres per hour towards Luzon and intensify gradually.

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
East to northeast force 4 to 5, occasionally force 6.
One or two rain patches.
Moderate to rough seas.

Nan'ao:
East to northeast force 6 to 7, occasionally force 8.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

The tropical depression to the east of the Philippines has entered the area of responsibility of the Hong Kong Observatory.

At 120600 UTC, the tropical depression to the east of the Philippines with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one seven point eight degrees north (17.8 N) one two four point seven degrees east (124.7 E) and is forecast to move west at about 12 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
