Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon is affecting the coast of southeastern China. Locally, temperatures this morning were generally 2 to 3 degrees lower than those of yesterday.

Haikui has weakened into a tropical depression. At 10 a.m., Haikui was centred about 110 kilometres north-northeast of Xisha. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea and further weaken.

Weather forecast for today

Cloudy with a few rain patches. Moderate to fresh easterly winds, occasionally strong offshore.

Outlook : A few rain patches in the next couple of days. Windy at first tomorrow.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Nan'ao and Shanwei.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    Tropical Storm Haikui has weakened into a tropical depression. At 10 a.m., Haikui with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 17.7 degrees north, 112.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea and weaken gradually.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Tropical Storm Haikui (1724) has weakened into a Tropical Depression with central pressure 998 hectopascals. At 120000 UTC, it was centred within 60 nautical miles of one seven point seven degrees north (17.7 N) one one two point nine degrees east (112.9 E) and is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 6 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    Dissipated over sea.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
