The weather was cooler and temperatures over many places in the afternoon were six to seven degrees lower than those of yesterday. With the northeast monsoon and its replenishment persisting, it will be cool in the morning and at night over southern China this week. A broad band of clouds will continue to bring cloudy weather to the coast of Guangdong tomorrow, then it will be slightly brighter in the following couple of days.

Besides, Kirogi weakened into a tropical depression this morning and made landfall over the southern part of Vietnam in the afternoon, then weakened into an area of low pressure.

Bulletin issued at 21:30 HKT 19/Nov/2017

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 191200 UTC, Tropical Depression Kirogi (1725) has weakened into an area of low pressure.

No further warnings on this area of low pressure will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless regeneration takes place.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the

territory were as follows :

Chek Lap Kok 0.15

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
