Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The subsiding air in the outer circulation of Tropical Cyclone Maria is bringing generally fine weather to Guangdong.

At 5 a.m., Severe Typhoon Maria was centred about 140 kilometres west-northwest of Taibei. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of Fujian and Zhejiang.

Weather forecast for today

Fine. Very hot during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 33 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees higher in the New Territories. Light winds.

Outlook : Sunny periods tomorrow. Squally showers in the following few days.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao. Strong winds in Shanwei.

    Weather Situation:
    A broad area of low pressure is bringing unsettled weather to the south China coastal waters.

    At 5 a.m., Severe Typhoon Maria with maximum sustained winds of about 165 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 26.3 degrees north, 121.2 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 30 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of Fujian and Zhejiang.

    East to northeast force 4, becoming southeast force 3 to 4.
    Isolated showers.
    Slight to moderate seas.

    Nan'ao:
    East to northeast force 6 to 7, becoming southwest force 8.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 102100 UTC, Severe Typhoon Maria (1808) with central pressure 955 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of two six point three degrees north (26.3 N) one two one point one degrees east (121.1 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 16 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 90 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 210 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 270 nautical miles.

    Forecast position and intensity at 112100 UTC
    Two eight point seven degrees north (28.7 N)
    One one five point one degrees east (115.1 E)
    Maximum winds 25 knots.

    Forecast position and intensity at 120900 UTC
    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
