Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 4:30 p.m. on 12 August 2018

Warnings:
Gale force winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Nan'ao and Shanwei.

Weather Situation:
The tropical depression over the northern part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical storm. At 4 p.m., the tropical storm over the northern part of the South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 21.1 degrees north, 112.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Yagi with maximum sustained winds of about 75 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 27.1 degrees north, 123.3 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 34 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

This means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us.

At 6 p.m., the tropical storm over the northern part of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 260 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.9 degrees north 112.2 degrees east) and is forecast to move slowly, lingering around the seas off the coast of western Guangdong.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 120900 UTC, the tropical storm Yagi (1814) with central pressure 990 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two seven point five degrees north (27.5 N) one two two point nine degrees east (122.9 E) and is forecast to move northwest at about 18 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 40 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 300 nautical miles.

Three two point six degrees north (32.6 N)
One one seven point one degrees east (117.1 E)
Maximum winds 25 knots.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 120900 UTC, the tropical storm over the northern part of South China Sea with central pressure 990 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two one point zero degrees north (21.0 N) one one two point two degrees east (112.2 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
