Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0840 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...

A surface trough extends from 07N78W to 05N95W. The ITCZ extends
from 05N95W to 09N130W. Scattered moderate isolated strong 
convection is noted from 10N to 20N between 129W and 138W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Fresh to strong winds prevail across the Gulf of Tehuantepec with
seas in the 6 to 8 ft range. Gentle to moderate N to NW winds 
prevail over the Gulf of California as well as west of the Baja 
California peninsula. Light to gentle winds prevail elsewhere 
over the open waters off Mexico. Seas are in the 1-3 ft range 
over the Gulf of California and 4-6 ft elsewhere.

For the forecast, fresh to strong winds will prevail in the Gulf
of Tehuantepec through this morning. Building high pressure west
of California combined with low pressure developing over the SW 
United States will produce fresh to strong NW winds and building 
seas over the waters west of Baja California Norte Tue night and 
Wed. This will also help for fresh to strong winds over the Gulf 
of California from the middle to end of the week. The next gale- 
force gap wind event in the Gulf of Tehuantepec is forecast to 
begin Fri. 

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh to strong NE gap winds prevail across the Papagayo region 
with seas in the 6-8 ft range. Moderate to fresh winds and seas 
to 6 ft are over the Gulf of Panama. Light to gentle winds and 
seas of 4-5 ft are elsewhere.

For the forecast, fresh to strong NE winds will prevail in the
Papagayo region through Tue morning, with moderate winds the
remainder of the week. Moderate to fresh N winds in the Gulf of 
Panama will continue through Tue evening, with moderate winds 
then continuing through the remainder of the week. 

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

Surface troughing prevails over the waters west of 130W, with a
ridge of high pressure over the waters north of 20N and east of
130W. The pressure gradient between the ridge and troughing is
producing moderate to fresh winds over the waters east of the
trough to near 125W. Seas over this area are in the 7-9 ft
range. Gentle to moderate winds and seas in the 5 to 7 ft range 
prevail elsewhere. 

For the forecast, strong high pressure building west of 
California is expected to produce increasing N to NE winds and 
building seas north of 20N by Tue. Fresh to strong winds will
spread southward to cover the waters between 10N and 20N and west
of 120W from the middle to end of the week.
