Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2100 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...

A surface trough extends from 05N78W to 05N98W. The ITCZ extends
from 05N98W to 10N131W. Scattered moderate convection is noted 
from 10N to 20N and W of 125W. 

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Gentle to moderate NE winds prevail across the Gulf of Tehuantepec
with seas in the 3 to 5 ft range. Gentle to moderate N to NW 
winds prevail over the Gulf of California as well as west of the 
Baja California peninsula. Light to gentle winds prevail 
elsewhere over the open waters off Mexico. Seas are in the 1-3 ft
range over the Gulf of California and 4 to 6 ft elsewhere.

For the forecast, building high pressure west of California 
combined with low pressure developing over the SW United States 
will produce fresh to strong NW winds and building seas over the 
waters west of Baja California Norte Tue night and Wed. This will
also help for fresh to strong winds over the Gulf of California 
from the middle to end of the week. The next gale-force gap wind
event in the Gulf of Tehuantepec is forecast to begin Fri. 

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh to strong NE gap winds prevail across the Papagayo region 
with seas in the 6-8 ft range. Moderate to fresh winds and seas 
to 6 ft are over the Gulf of Panama. Light to gentle winds and 
seas of 4-5 ft are elsewhere.

For the forecast, fresh to strong NE winds will prevail in the
Papagayo region through Tue morning, with moderate winds the
remainder of the week. Moderate to fresh N winds in the Gulf of 
Panama will continue through Tue evening, with moderate winds 
then continuing through the remainder of the week. 

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

Surface troughing prevails over the waters W of 135W, with a 
ridge of high pressure over the waters N of 20N and E of 130W. 
The pressure gradient between the ridge and troughing is 
producing moderate to fresh winds over the waters E of the 
trough to near 126W. Seas over this area are in the 7-9 ft 
range. Gentle to moderate winds and seas in the 5 to 7 ft range 
prevail elsewhere. 

For the forecast, strong high pressure building W of California 
is expected to produce increasing N to NE winds and building seas
N of 20N by Tue. Fresh to strong winds will spread southward to 
cover the waters between 10N and 20N and W of 120W from the 
middle to end of the week.
