Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0200 UTC.

Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: A tight pressure gradient=20
between high pressure the Gulf of Mexico and the equatorial=20
trough in the eastern Pacific is supporting gale force winds over
the Tehuantepec region. North winds of up to 35 kt will prevail
into tonight, then gradually diminish. Seas of up to 9 ft will=20
also gradually diminish. Please read the latest High Seas=20

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...

A surface trough extends from the coast of Costa Rica near=20
10N85W to 04N96W. The ITCZ continues from 04N96W to 10N134W.=20
Another surface trough is analyzed from 15N134W to 10N138W.=20
Scattered moderate convection is noted north of 08N and west
of 128W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Please see the Special Features section above for information on
the Gulf of Tehuantepec gale-force gap wind.

Moderate to fresh NW wind prevails over the northern Gulf of=20
California. Elsewhere offshore Mexico, light to gentle winds are=20
occurring. Seas are 3 to 6 ft, except 2 to 3 ft in the Gulf of=20
California.

For the forecast, tight pressure gradient between high pressure over
Mexico and the equatorial trough over the east Pacific waters
will continue to support gale-force winds in the Gulf of
Tehuantepec into tonight. Northerly winds there will then remain
strong into Thu before diminishing. Elsewhere, moderate NW winds
will prevail over the northern Gulf of California. Gentle to=20
moderate winds will prevail west of Baja and off Cabo Corrientes.
Looking ahead, more gale force winds will develop in the Gulf of
Tehuantepec by Sat night.=20

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and=20
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

A surface trough stretches just offshore the coast of Colombia,
along with scattered moderate convection. Fresh NE to E winds=20
are occurring in the Papagayo region, with moderate to locally=20
fresh N winds over and south of the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere,=20
mainly gentle winds prevail. Seas well offshore Guatemala are 6=20
to 8 ft in swell associated with gale force gap winds in the=20
Gulf of Tehuantepec. Seas of 5 to 7 ft elsewhere offshore=20
Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, with seas of 3 to 5 ft to=20
the south.

For the forecast, pulsing fresh to strong winds will prevail in=20
the Papagayo region through early next week. Pulsing moderate to=20
fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama each night into=20
Sat night. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. The=20
swell generated from the gale-force gap wind event in the Gulf of
Tehuantepec will subside below 8 ft tonight over the Guatemala=20
offshore waters.=20

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

A surface trough extends from 15N134W to 10N138W. To the N and=20
of this trough, S of 22N and W of 125W, moderate to locally fresh
winds, seas of 7 to 9 ft, and scattered moderate convection is=20
occurring. Elsewhere N of the ITCZ, gentle to moderate trades=20
prevail, with gentle to moderate SE winds to the S. Seas away=20
from the aforementioned area are average 5 to 7 ft.=20

For the forecast, fresh NE to E winds will continue from 10N to
25N and west of 120W through tonight, as the trough drifts E.=20
Seas of 7 to 9 ft will prevail in this region. Elsewhere, winds=20
will remain moderate or less with seas less than 7 ft.=20
