Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0800 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...

A surface trough extends from the coast of Costa Rica near 
10N85W to 05N95W. The ITCZ continues from 05N95W to 13N135W. 
Another surface trough is analyzed from 17N134W to 08N139W. 
Scattered moderate convection is noted north of 10N and west of 
128W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Moderate to fresh NW wind prevails over the northern Gulf of 
California. Strong to near-gale N winds prevail across the Gulf 
of Tehuantepec, with seas to 9 ft. Elsewhere offshore Mexico, 
light to gentle winds are occurring. Seas are 3 to 6 ft, except 2
to 3 ft in the Gulf of California. 

For the forecast, northerly winds will remain strong to near-gale
across the Tehuantepec region today before diminishing. 
Elsewhere, moderate NW winds will prevail over the northern Gulf 
of California. Gentle to moderate winds will prevail west of Baja
and off Cabo Corrientes. Looking ahead, the next gale force wind
event will develop in the Gulf of Tehuantepec by Sat night.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

A surface trough stretches just offshore the coast of Colombia,
along with scattered moderate convection. Fresh NE to E winds 
are occurring in the Papagayo region, with moderate to locally 
fresh N winds over and south of the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere,  
gentle winds prevail. Seas well offshore Guatemala are 5 to 7 ft
in swell associated with near-gale winds in the Gulf of 
Tehuantepec. Seas of 4 to 6 ft elsewhere offshore Guatemala, El 
Salvador, and Nicaragua, with seas of 3 to 5 ft to the south.

For the forecast, pulsing fresh to strong winds will prevail in 
the Papagayo region through early next week. Pulsing moderate to 
fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama each night into 
Sat night. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. The 
swell generated from the gap wind event in the Gulf of 
Tehuantepec will subside below 7 ft this morning over the 
Guatemala offshore waters. 

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

A surface trough extends from 17N134W to 08N139W. To the N and 
of this trough, S of 22N and W of 125W, moderate to locally fresh
winds, seas of 7 to 9 ft, and scattered moderate convection is 
occurring. Elsewhere N of the ITCZ, gentle to moderate trades 
prevail, with gentle to moderate SE winds to the S. Seas away 
from the aforementioned area are average 5 to 7 ft. 

For the forecast, fresh NE to E winds will continue from 10N to
22N and west of 125W through the morning, as the trough drifts 
E. Seas of 6 to 8 ft will prevail in this region. Elsewhere, 
winds will remain moderate or less with seas less than 7 ft.
