Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2150 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

A surface trough extends from the Colombia-Panama border near
06N77W to 05N90W to 04N108W. The ITCZ then continues to 05N130W 
to beyond 05N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted south 
of the trough from 01N to 06N and E of 90W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Fresh to strong N winds are occurring in the Gulf of Tehunatepec,
with seas of 5 to 6 ft. Fresh NW winds prevail offshore Baja 
California Norte and from Cabo San Lazaro to Cabo San Lucas, 
with seas of 8 to 12 ft in NW swell. Elsewhere across the waters,
mainly gentle winds prevail along with wave heights of 4 to 6 ft.

For the forecast, fresh north winds in the Gulf of Tehunatepec 
will gradually diminish today. Elsewhere, mainly gentle winds 
will change little through Mon, with the exception of moderate 
northwest to north winds remaining offshore Cabo Corrientes. 
Fresh to strong northwest to north winds will continue through 
the weekend, along with NW swell. Wave heights of 8 to 10 ft will
build southward, off Baja California Sur today. Fresh to strong 
northwest winds are expected in the northern Gulf of California 
tonight into Sunday.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh to strong northeast to east winds continue across the 
Papagayo region tonight, with wave heights up to 8 ft. Moderate 
to fresh north winds are in the Gulf of Panama, with wave heights
of 4-6 ft. Mainly light to gentle winds are noted elsewhere, 
along with wave heights of 3-5 ft due to a south to southwest 
swell, with the exception of wave heights of up to 6 ft offshore 
of Ecuador.

For the forecast, fresh to strong northeast winds in the Gulf of
Papagayo region will continue today, diminish to fresh speeds 
through early Mon, then decrease further to gentle to moderate 
through Wed night. The moderate north winds in the Gulf of Panama
will prevail today. Gentle to moderate winds will return by mid 
week across the region and prevail through the end of the week.

REMAINDER OF THE AREA
Building high pressure across the Eastern Pacific is providing 
fresh to strong north to northwest winds off the Gulf of 
California this afternoon. Altimeter and buoy data indicate seas 
between 8 t 12 ft. Further west, strong E to SE winds N of 20N 
and W of 135W are associated with a trough west of the area. A 
few isolated areas with gusts to gale are possible from 15N to 
24N between 136W to 140W due to scattered moderate convection 
east of the trough axis. Seas N of the ITCZ are 7 to 10 ft. To 
the S of the ITCZ, mainly moderate trades prevail, with seas of 4
to 6 ft.

For the forecast, NE winds will veer E and subside to moderate 
over most of the area, although the trough to the west will 
continue to support strong winds and higher seas N of 23N and W 
of 137W. Seas elsewhere N of 23N will gradually subside, but 
remain mainly above 8 ft through the weekend.
