Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2130 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

A surface trough extends from the Colombian coast near 06N77W to
03N94W to a 1011 mb low pressure near 03N102W to 03N105W. The 
ITCZ stretches from 03N105W to 06N116W, then resumes W of a 
trough near 07N122W and beyond 06N140W. Scattered showers and 
thunderstorms are noted about 180 nm on either side of the 
monsoon trough. Scattered moderate convection is noted along the 
ITCZ from 06N to 09N between 122W to 140W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Latest scatterometer pass indicates fresh to strong N to NW 
winds are occurring within 180 nm offshore Baja California from 
Punta Eugenia south to Cabo San Lazaro, with moderate to fresh 
winds north of Punta Eugenia and south of Cabo San Lazaro. As 
high pressure builds down the western coast of the U.S., seas W 
of Baja California range from 8 to 11 ft in NW swell. For areas 
N a line from Cabo Corrientes to the Revillagigedo Islands, 
moderate NW winds and 5 to 7 ft seas prevail. To the south, winds
are light and seas are 3 to 6 ft. 

For the forecast, fresh to strong NW to N winds will continue 
offshore Baja California today, along with NW swell. This
conditions will persist through Monday and gradually diminish
by middle of the week. Seas of 8 to 11 ft in this area will 
gradually diminish. Fresh winds, at times locally strong, will 
prevail in the Gulf of California through Wednesday. Elsewhere, 
mainly gentle winds and seas of 4 to 6 ft will prevail through 
early next week. 

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh to locally strong NE to E winds prevail across the Papagayo
region with seas of up to 7 ft this afternoon. Mainly light to 
gentle winds are noted in the Gulf of Panama and elsewhere, 
along with wave heights of 3-5 ft due to a south to southwest 
swell, with the exception of wave heights of up to 6 ft offshore 
of Ecuador.

For the forecast, fresh northeast winds in the Gulf of Papagayo 
region will gradually diminish tonight, then decrease further to
gentle to moderate through the end of the week. Moderate north 
winds in the Gulf of Panama will pulse nightly through mid week
becoming light to gentle the remainder of the week. Gentle to 
moderate winds will prevail elsewhere.

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

N of the ITCZ, widespread moderate to fresh NE winds prevail due
to the pressure gradient between the ITCZ and high pressure to 
the north. Seas are 8 to 11 ft. Farther W, fresh to strong SE 
winds N of 23N and W of 136W are associated with a trough west 
of the area. To the S of the ITCZ, gentle to moderate E to SE 
winds prevail with seas of 4 to 6 ft.

For the forecast, NE winds will veer E and subside to moderate 
over most of the area, although the trough to the west will 
continue to support strong winds and higher seas N of 24N and W 
of 137W into Mon. Seas elsewhere N of 23N will gradually 
subside, but remain mainly above 8 ft into early week.
