Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0230 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

A surface trough extends from the Colombian coast near 06N77W to
04N94W to 03N102W to 03N105W. The ITCZ stretches from 03N105W to
06N117W, then resumes W of a trough near 07N122W and beyond 
06N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 180 nm on
either side of the surface trough and along the ITCZ from 05N to
09N between 122W to 140W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Mainly fresh NW winds are occurring within 180 nm offshore Baja
California. Seas in this region are 8 to 10 ft in NW swell. For 
areas N a line from Cabo Corrientes to the Revillagigedo Islands,
moderate NW winds and 5 to 7 ft seas prevail. To the south, 
winds are light and seas are 3 to 6 ft. 

For the forecast, fresh to strong NW winds tonight offshore Baja
California will diminish some Mon. NW swell leading to seas of 8
to 10 ft will also decay in this area. As high pressure builds
toward the region, fresh NW winds in the Gulf of California will
increase to strong Mon night, then prevail through Tue.
Elsewhere, gentle to moderate winds and 5 to 7 ft seas will
prevail into mid-week. Looking ahead, gales may develop in the
Gulf of Tehuantepec next weekend. 

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh NE to E winds are noted in and near the Gulf of Papagayo,
with some moderate N winds in the Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere,
winds are light to gentle with seas of 3 to 5 ft.

For the forecast, fresh northeast winds in the Gulf of Papagayo 
region will gradually diminish Mon, then decrease further to 
gentle to moderate through the end of the week. Moderate north 
winds in the Gulf of Panama will pulse nightly through mid week 
becoming light to gentle the remainder of the week. Gentle to 
moderate winds will prevail elsewhere. 

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

N of the ITCZ, widespread moderate to fresh NE winds prevail due
to the pressure gradient between the ITCZ and high pressure to 
the north. Seas are 8 to 10 ft. Farther W, fresh to strong SE 
winds N of 24N and W of 137W are associated with a trough west 
of the area. To the S of the ITCZ, gentle to moderate E to SE 
winds prevail with seas of 4 to 6 ft.

For the forecast, NE winds will veer E and subside to moderate 
over most of the area, although the trough to the west will 
continue to support strong winds and higher seas N of 25N and W 
of 138W through. Seas elsewhere N of 24N will gradually subside,
but remain mainly above 8 ft through early week.
