Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1530 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

A surface trough extends from Colombia near 10N75.5W to 06.5N80W
to 04N113W. The ITCZ stretches from 04N113W to 07.5N135W to 
06.5N137W to beyond 07N140W. Widely scattered moderate convection
is noted from 02.5N to 06.5N between 97W and 111W. Scattered 
moderate isolated strong convection is noted within 180 nm N of 
ITCZ W of 115W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

A relatively narrow surface ridge extends from strong high
pressure across the NE Pacific south and southeastward through 
30N133W to near 20N110W. The pressure gradient between this 
ridge and lower pressure across the Sierra Madre Occidentales of 
Mexico is producing moderate to locally fresh N winds within 150
nm offshore of Baja California N of Cabo San Lazaro, and 
moderate N winds elsewhere southward to 18N. Seas are 5 to 8 ft 
in NW swell across the offshore waters N of Cabo San Lazaro, and 
4 to 7 ft elsewhere. Moderate side shore winds continue along the
coast along Cabo Corrientes and Puerto Angel. Otherwise to the S
of 18N, winds are light to gentle and seas are 4 to 6 ft.

Inside the Gulf of California, fresh to locally strong northerly
winds prevail south of the Tiburon Basin, where seas are 4 to 7 
ft.

Fresh to locally strong NW winds in the Gulf of California will 
prevail into this evening before diminishing tonight. Elsewhere,
gentle to moderate winds will prevail through mid-week. Looking 
ahead, a cold front will move down the Gulf of California Thu, 
and bring strong winds to the Gulf Thu night through Sat. Then, 
Sat, strong gales will develop in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and 
continue through the weekend.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, 
and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Moderate to locally fresh NE to E winds are noted across the 
Papagayo region, with moderate N winds in the Gulf of Panama. 
Elsewhere, winds are light to gentle with seas of 3 to 5 ft.

NE winds across the Papagayo region will pulse to
fresh again tonight, then gradually diminish through the end of 
the week. Moderate north winds in the Gulf of Panama will also pulse
tonight, then become light to gentle the remainder of the week. 
Mainly gentle winds will prevail elsewhere.

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

N of the ITCZ to 21N, widespread mainly fresh NE to E winds 
prevail due to the pressure gradient between the ITCZ and the 
high pressure to the north. Seas are 8 to 11 ft in mixed swell. 
Across far NW portions, fresh SE winds are N of 27N and W of 
138W associated with the pressure gradient between a trough west
of the area and high pressure. To the S of the ITCZ, gentle to 
moderate E to SE winds prevail with seas of 5 to 7 ft.

Winds will subside across waters N of 25N as the ridge remains in
place while slowly weakening. However, the pressure gradient S 
of 25N and W of 122W will support fresh trades and seas of 8 to 
10 ft most of the week. The trough W of the area will weaken, 
allowing winds to relax to fresh and seas to fall under 8 ft
today.
