Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
0945 UTC.

...Special Features...

Gulf of Tehuantepec gale warning: The earlier storm-force=20
winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec have diminished slightly to=20
strong gale-force as a tight gradient remains in place over
southern Mexico. Peak wave heights with these winds are in the=20
12-19 ft range. These winds will diminish to near gale-force=20
speeds tonight and to strong speeds Mon. Wave heights will=20
begin to subside this afternoon and into Mon. Near gale- force=20
north to northeast winds are expected Tue night and Wed as high=20
pressure builds southward over eastern Mexico. For further=20
details, please see the latest NWS High Seas Forecast issued by=20
the National Hurricane Center, at this website:

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...=20

A surface trough extends from northwestern Colombia to the
coast of Colombia near 06N77W to 03N84W to 02N90W to 03N96W,=20
where latest scatterometer data indicates that it transitions to=20
the ITCZ and continues to 04N105W to 04N116W to 04N133W. Scattered
moderate convection is within 240 nm south of the ITCZ between
96W-99W, and within 120 nm of trough between 90W-93W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Surface ridging anchored by a 1027 mb high near 30N131W is=20
maintaining fresh northwest winds along the Baja California=20
offshore waters, with wave heights of 3-5 ft due to a south to=20
southwest swell. Along the Gulf of California, fresh to strong=20
northwest winds continues all the way to the Nayarit offshore=20
waters with wave heights of 5-6 ft. Light to gentle northwest=20
winds are elsewhere along the southwestern Mexican offshore=20
waters, with wave heights of 2-3 ft.=20

A gap wind event is ongoing for the region of Tehuantepec with=20
strong gale-force winds there. See the Special Features section=20
for further details. Moderate to fresh winds will prevail off=20
Baja California Norte through the middle of next week when the=20
next gap wind event is forecast for Tehuantepec.=20

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and=20
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

A weak pressure gradient across the area is supporting light to=20
gentle variable winds, with wave heights to 5 ft. Fresh to=20
strong north to east winds are in the Gulf of Papagayo, while
moderate north winds are in the Gulf of Panama. Wave heights=20
are up to 8 ft in the Gulf of Papagayo and to 6 ft in the=20
Gulf of Panama.

Gentle winds continue will through most of the forecast period,=20
except for the Papagayo region where winds will pulse to fresh to
strong by Sun through the middle of the week. Moderate northerly
winds will also pulse in the Gulf of Panama tonight through Mon=20
night.=20

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

High pressure of 1027 mb high near 30N131W continues to extend
a ridge across the area, with the related gradient supporting=20
moderate to fresh northeast to east winds and wave heights 5-8 ft
north of the ITCZ and west of 115W. Locally strong winds are=20
noted from 10N to 15N west of 137W. These conditions are expected
to continue through at least late on Tue as the gradient there=20
tightens. Wave heights with these winds should range from 8-11=20
ft. Sporadic clusters of moderate convection are noted north of=20
the ITCZ west of about 117W, and also from 09N to 11N between=20
104W-110W.
