Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
1550 UTC.

Gulf of Tehuantepec gale warning: Gale-force N to NE winds to 40
kt continue in the Tehuantepec region as a tight gradient=20
remains in place over southern Mexico. Peak wave heights with=20
these winds are in the 13-16 ft range. These winds will diminish
to near gale-force speeds tonight and to strong speeds Mon. Wave
heights will begin to subside this afternoon and into Mon. Near=20
gale-force north to northeast winds are expected Tue night and=20
Wed as high pressure builds southward over eastern Mexico. For=20

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH...=20

A surface trough extends from northwestern Colombia near 07N78W=20
to 0N91W to 05N111W to 05N118W, where it transitions to the ITCZ
and continues to 04N130W to 04N140W. Scattered moderate=20
convection is from 02S to 03N between 91W and 103W, and from 02N
to 09N W of 117W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Surface ridging anchored by a 1027 mb high near 30N129W is=20
maintaining moderate to fresh N to NE winds along the Baja=20
California offshore waters, with wave heights of 3-5 ft due to a=20
a NW swell. Along the Gulf of California, gentle to moderate=20
NW winds are observed with wave heights to 3 ft. Light to gentle
variable winds are elsewhere along the SW Mexican offshore=20
waters, with wave heights of 3-4 ft.=20

A gap wind event is ongoing for the region of Tehuantepec with=20
gale-force winds to 40 kt. See the Special Features section for=20
further details. Moderate to fresh N to NE winds will prevail=20
off Baja California through Thu as the ridge continues to move
eastward the next couple of days. A second NW swell event will=20
affect the Baja offshore waters with seas of 8-10 ft Tue through
Thu. Otherwise, the next gap wind event for the Tehuantepec
region is forecast to begin Tue.=20

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and=20
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

A weak pressure gradient across the area is supporting light to=20
gentle variable winds, with wave heights to 5 ft. Fresh to=20
strong north to east winds are in the Gulf of Papagayo, while
moderate north winds are in the Gulf of Panama. Wave heights=20
are up to 8 ft in the Gulf of Papagayo and to 6 ft in the=20
Gulf of Panama.

Gentle winds continue will through most of the forecast period,=20
except for the Papagayo region where the fresh to strong winds will=20
continue through the middle of the week. Moderate northerly winds=20
will also pulse in the Gulf of Panama tonight through Mon night.=20

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

High pressure of 1027 mb high near 30N131W continues to extend
a ridge across the area, with the related gradient supporting=20
moderate to fresh northeast to east winds and wave heights 5-8 ft
north of the ITCZ and west of 115W. Locally strong winds are=20
noted from 10N to 15N west of 137W. These conditions are expected
to continue through at least late on Tue as the gradient there=20
tightens. Wave heights with these winds should range from 8-11=20
ft. Sporadic clusters of moderate convection are noted north of=20
the ITCZ west of about 117W, and also from 09N to 11N between=20
104W-110W.
