Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from
03.4S to 30N, east of 120W including the Gulf of California, and
from the Equator to 30N, between 120W and 140W. The following
information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations,
radar, and meteorological analysis.

Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through
2200 UTC.

...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... 

A surface trough extends from 10N75W to 03.5N90W to 03N104W. The
ITCZ continues from 03N104W to 05N116W to 05.5N132W to beyond 
05.5N140W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is 
noted from 01.5S to 07N E of 107W, and from 03.5N to 09N between
109W and 123W. Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted 
from 04S to 10N west of 129W.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO

Fresh to strong N to NW winds continue across the Baja offshore
waters this afternoon, to the N of a dissipated cold front. Seas
along the Baja offshore waters N of Punta Eugenia are in the 
8-11 ft range in NW swell, and 8-9 ft southward to 21N. Moderate 
to fresh NW to W winds prevail across most of the Gulf of 
California, except fresh northerly winds near the gulf entrance.
Seas across the Gulf are 3-4 ft except up to 5 ft near Baja Sur.
Gentle to moderate northerly winds continue off the Gulf of 
Tehuantepec where seas are 4-7 ft. Gentle to locally moderate NW 
winds are elsewhere along the SW Mexican offshore waters where 
wave heights of 4-6 ft prevail.

Winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will continue to diminish and
become onshore tonight. Moderate to fresh NW winds in the Gulf 
of California will prevail through Wed and increase to fresh to 
strong speeds Wed night through Thu. Gale-force winds are likely
to develop in the Tehuantepec region on Thu and continue at or 
near gale force through late Sat.

OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and 
WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR

Fresh to locally strong gap winds are blowing across the 
Papagayo region with seas of 6-8 ft. These winds cover most of 
the Nicaragua waters to offshore west of 98W. Fresh N to NE 
winds are in the Gulf of Panama with 3-5 ft seas. Light to gentle
winds are elsewhere along with wave heights of 4-6 ft due to SW 
swell.

Fresh to strong NE to E winds are expected across the Papagayo 
region through Tue. Moderate to fresh NE to E winds will then 
continue across the Nicaragua offshore waters through Fri. 
Moderate to fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama 
through tonight, then become gentle to moderate by Tue. Cross 
equatorial SW swell will continue to affect the offshore forecast
waters through the end of the week.

REMAINDER OF THE AREA

A 1032 mb high pressure system centered near 35N131W dominates 
the waters N of the ITCZ and W of about 115W. This weather 
pattern will continue to support fresh to locally strong NE to E 
winds and high seas in mixed swell across much of the forecast 
waters W of 110W through late Wed. Seas of 8 to 10 ft are 
expected in this region through Wed before subsiding to between 
6 and 9 ft on Thu. A large low pressure system and associated 
cold front will enter the NW corner of the discussion area over the
weekend.
