Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A dry continental airstream continues to bring generally fine weather to the coast of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over many places in the New Territories rose to 32 degrees or above in the afternoon.

At 4 p.m., Severe Typhoon Malakas was centred about 130 kilometres east-northeast of Taibei. It is forecast to move north at about 15 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly fine. The minimum temperature will be about 27 degrees tomorrow morning. Dry and hot during the day with a maximum temperature of around 32 degrees. Light to moderate northerly winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine and dry on Monday. Cloudier in the following couple of days.

    At 4 p.m., Severe Typhoon Malakas with maximum sustained winds of about 175 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 25.4 degrees north, 122.7 degrees east, it is forecast to move north at about 15 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 170900 UTC, Severe Typhoon Malakas (1616) with central pressure 935 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two five point six degrees north (25.6 N) one two two point seven degrees east (122.7 E) and is forecast to move north or north-northeast at about 6 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 95 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 150 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 45 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 180 nautical miles.

    One two three point seven degrees east (123.7 E)
    Maximum winds 80 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Yesterday's (16 Sep 2016) average ambient gamma radiation
dose rate taken outdoors in Hong Kong ranged from 0.08 to
0.14 microsievert per hour.  These are within the normal
range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the
territory were as follows :

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
