Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon is bringing cooler weather to Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over the territory this morning were generally three to four degrees lower than those of yesterday. Besides, Tropical Depression Megi has weakened into an area of low pressure over Jiangxi. Showers accosiated with its remnant are affecting the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with a few showers. It will be cooler. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds.

Outlook : Cooler with a few showers in the next couple of days.

    Tropical Depression Megi has weakened into an area of low pressure. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters gradually.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 281200 UTC, Tropical Storm Megi (1617) with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two five point four degrees north (25.4 N) one one six point three degrees east (116.3 E) and is forecast to weaken and move northwest at about 6 knots for the next 12 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 210 nautical miles.

    No further warnings on this Tropical Storm will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless re-intensification takes place.

    Dissipated over land.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
