Weather Information for South China Coastal Waters
Bulletin issued at 18:36 HKT 05/Oct/2016
At 6 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 29 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 72 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 0.2. The intensity of UV radiation was low.
The area of low pressure over the Luzon Strait has intensified into a tropical depression this afternoon. It will enter the South China Sea tomorrow (6 October 2016) and will move across the northern part of the South China Sea in the following couple of days. Besides, the northeast monsoon will reach southern China over the weekend. As the circulation of the tropical cyclone is rather small and compact, it will only bring significant impact to local weather when it gets relatively close to Hong Kong.
The movement of the tropical cyclone and its intensity change after entering the South China Sea remain uncertain for the time being, and its interaction with the northeast monsoon is also a determining factor. The Hong Kong Observatory will continue to monitor closely the evolution of the tropical cyclone.
