Under the combined effect of the northeast monsoon and Tropical Cyclone Aere, it will be windier with a few rain patches over the south China coastal areas.

At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Aere was centred about 150 kilometres northeast of Dongsha. It is forecast to be slow-moving and linger over the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Monday, 10 Oct 2016)

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 091200 UTC, Tropical Storm Aere (1619) with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point six degrees north (21.6 N) one one seven point seven degrees east (117.7 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 90 nautical miles elsewhere.

Forecast position and intensity at 101200 UTC
Two zero point six degrees north (20.6 N)
One one six point zero degrees east (116.0 E)
Maximum winds 25 knots.

Forecast position and intensity at 111200 UTC
Dissipated over sea.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
