Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon is bringing cool weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over the urban areas generally fell to 16 or 17 degrees this morning, and even down to 13 degrees over the northern part of the New Territories.

At 8 a.m., the tropical depression over the southern part of the Philippines was centred about 400 kilometres south-southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly cloudy with one or two rain patches. Cool in the morning. The maximum temperature will be about 20 degrees. Moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Remaining cool in the next few days. A few rain patches during the weekend. Sunny intervals early next week.

    Weather Situation:
    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    The tropical depression over the southern part of the Philippines has intensified into a Tropical Storm and was named Tokage. At 9 a.m., Tokage with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 11.3 degrees north, 122.4 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Tropical Depression over the southern part of the Philippines (1625) has intensified into a Tropical Storm with central pressure 998 hectopascals and was named as Tokage. At 250000 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one one point three degrees north (11.3 N) one two two point five degrees east (122.5 E) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Yesterday's (24 Nov 2016) average ambient gamma radiation

radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
