Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An intense northeast monsoon is bringing cool weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over most parts of the territory in the afternoon were six to seven degrees lower than those of yesterday.

At 4 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Tokage was centred about 750 kilometres south of Dongsha. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Cloudy with occasional rain. Rain will ease off gradually tonight and tomorrow morning. It will be rather cool. The minimum temperature will be around 14 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Sunny intervals during the day tomorrow with a maximum temperature of about 18 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong offshore and on high ground at first.

Outlook : Mainly fine on Monday. Cloudier in the following couple of days.

    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 4 p.m., Severe Tropical Storm Tokage with maximum sustained winds of about 90 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 14.0 degrees north, 117.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea.

     SEVERE TROPICAL STORM. AT 12 P.M., TOKAGE WAS CENTRED NEAR
     13.6 DEGREES NORTH, 118.0 DEGREES EAST. IT IS FORECAST TO 
     MOVE NORTH-WEST AT ABOUT 10 KNOTS TOWARDS THE CENTRAL PART 
     OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 260600 UTC, Severe Tropical Storm Tokage (1625) with central pressure 984 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of one three point eight degrees north (13.8 N) one one seven point eight degrees east (117.8 E) and is forecast to move north-northwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 50 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
