The northeast monsoon is affecting Guangdong. Locally, the relative humidity over the territory was generally about 60 per cent around noon. Meanwhile, a broad band of clouds continues to cover the northern part of the South China Sea.

Mainly cloudy. Dry with sunny periods in the afternoon. Moderate north to northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Sunny periods in the next few days. Slightly cooler on Thursday morning. Mild during the day over the weekend and early next week.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Tropical Depression Tokage (1625) has weakened into an area of low pressure with central pressure 1004 hectopascals. At 280900 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one six point one degrees north (16.1 N) one one six point five degrees east (116.5 E).

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 20 knots.

    No further warnings on this area of low pressure will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless re-intensification takes place.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Yesterday's (28 Nov 2016) average ambient gamma radiation
dose rate taken outdoors in Hong Kong ranged from 0.08 to
0.14 microsievert per hour.  These are within the normal
range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the
territory were as follows :

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
