Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon affecting the coast of Guangdong moderated gradually yesterday. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with one or two light rain patches at first. There were sunny intervals during the day. An intense replenishment of the northeast monsoon is expected to affect southern China midweek this week. The weather will become cold and dry over the region.

At 11 p.m. last night, Super Typhoon Nock-ten was centred about 290 kilometres east-southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour across the central part of the Philippines.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Monday, 26 Dec 2016)

Mainly cloudy at first with a minimum temperature of about 18 degrees. Becoming fine during the day apart from some haze. The maximum temperature will be around 23 degrees. Moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Becoming cold midweek this week. Temperatures falling to around 12 degrees in the urban areas on Wednesday and Thursday, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.

    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., Super Typhoon Nock-ten with maximum sustained winds of about 195 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 13.5 degrees north, 123.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour across the central part of the Philippines.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 251500 UTC, Super Typhoon Nock-ten (1626) with central pressure 932 hectopascals was centred within 30 nautical miles of one three point five degrees north (13.5 N) one two three point four degrees east (123.4 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 11 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 100 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 180 nautical miles over northern semicircle, 150 nautical miles elsewhere.
    Radius of over 47 knot winds 90 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 63 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 270 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Yesterday's (25 Dec 2016) average ambient gamma radiation
dose rate taken outdoors in Hong Kong ranged from 0.08 to
0.15 microsievert per hour.  These are within the normal
range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
