Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The winter monsoon affected the coastal areas of Guangdong yesterday. Locally, the weather became appreciably cooler yesterday. There were cloudy periods at first and it was mainly fine and dry during the day. The relatively humidity over many places stayed around 50 per cent in the afternoon. The winter monsoon is expected to bring cold weather to southern China today and tomorrow.

Besides, Typhoon Nock-ten weakened into a tropical storm gradually yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, Nock-ten was centred about 440 kilometres north-northeast of Nansha Dao. It is forecast to move southwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea and dissipate gradually.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong

Mainly cloudy. Cold in the morning with a minimum temperature of around 11 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Bright periods during the day with a maximum temperature of about 15 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong offshore and on high ground.

Outlook : Still rather cool in the following couple of days.

    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Nock-ten with maximum sustained winds of about 75 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 14.2 degrees north, 115.4 degrees east, it is forecast to move southwest at about 18 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea and dissipate gradually.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 271500 UTC, Tropical Storm Nock-ten (1626) with central pressure 995 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one three point eight degrees north (13.8 N) one one five point one degrees east (115.1 E) and is forecast to move southwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    Dissipated over sea.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation.     1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2015, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
