Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon is bringing slightly cooler weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong. Locally, temperatures over the territory in the afternoon were generally three to four degrees lower than those of yesterday.

At 4 p.m., the tropical depression over the southern part of the Philippines was centred about 580 kilometres southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy. Visibility relatively low in some areas at first. The minimum temperature tomorrow morning will be about 18 degrees in the urban areas and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Sunny periods during the day with a maximum temperature of around 21 degrees. Moderate to fresh easterly winds, occasionally strong offshore tomorrow.

Outlook : Windier and slightly cooler on Wednesday. Even cooler with a few rain patches in the latter part of this week.

The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 4 p.m., the tropical depression over the southern part of the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 10.2 degrees north, 124.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

Visibility relatively low in some areas at first.
Moderate seas, becoming rough later.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 090600 UTC, the tropical depression over the southern part of the Philippines with central pressure 1002 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one zero point two degrees north (10.2 N) one two four point three degrees east (124.3 E) and is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
