Weather Information for South China Coastal Waters
Bulletin issued at 18:21 HKT 15/Jul/2017
At 6 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 29 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 80 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 0.8. The intensity of UV radiation was low.
The subtropical ridge is covering southeastern China. Besides, the area of low pressure over the central part of the South China Sea has intensified into a tropical depression named Talas, and is bringing unsettled weather to the region. Talas is expected to move towards the southern part of Hainan Island and then into Beibu Wan today and tomorrow. It will keep at a distance of more than 500 kilometres from Hong Kong and will not directly affect the territory. However, under the combined effect of the subtropical ridge and Talas, it will be windier with squally showers over the northern part of the South China Sea on Saturday and Sunday. People out to the sea or engaging in water sports should take note of the weather changes.
Please be reminded that:
The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 7:30 p.m. today. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over New Territories.
