Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At 8 a.m., Tropical Depression Pakhar was centred about 360 kilometres east-northeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of Luzon.

Sunny intervals and a few showers. Hot with a maximum temperature of about 31 degrees. Moderate east to southeasterly winds.

Outlook : Hot with sunny intervals tomorrow. More showers in the following couple of days.

    At 9 a.m., Tropical Depression Pakhar with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 15.1 degrees north, 124.1 degrees east, it is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of Luzon.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    Tropical Depression Pakhar (1714) has intensified into a Tropical Storm with central pressure 994 hectopascals. At 250000 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one five point zero degrees north (15.0 N) one two four point zero degrees east (124.0 E) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
