At 7 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 29 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 77 per cent.

Please be reminded that:

The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 8:30 p.m. today. A few squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over New Territories East, Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.
The Very Hot Weather Warning is now in force. Very hot weather might cause adverse health effects. Members of the public should take care to avoid heatstroke.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Under the influence of the subtropical ridge, the weather is generally fine over southeastern China. Locally, temperatures over parts of the New Territories rose to around 34 degrees in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the broad area of low pressure near Luzon is bringing unsettled weather to the region.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy with haze and a few showers. Showers will be heavier with a few squally thunderstorms over the eastern part of the New Territories at first. The minimum temperature will be about 28 degrees tomorrow morning. Very hot with sunny periods during the day. The maximum temperature will be around 33 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Showers will increase gradually in the latter part of this week.

    A northerly airstream is affecting the coastal waters of Guangdong. Meanwhile, the broad area of low pressure near Luzon is bringing unsettled weather to the region.

radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
