At noon at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 30 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 72 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 6. The intensity of UV radiation was high.

Hot weather might cause adverse health effects. The Observatory advises the public to stay on the alert.

The subtropical ridge is covering southeastern China. Meanwhile, the area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea is intensifying gradually, a tropical cyclone appears to be forming.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Sunny periods. It will be hot and hazy. A few showers and thunderstorms later. Light to moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Sunny periods tomorrow. Weather will deteriorate in the following couple of days. There will be heavy squally showers and winds will strengthen gradually.

    Weather Situation:
    A northerly airstream is affecting the coastal waters of Guangdong. Meanwhile, the area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea is intensifying gradually, a tropical cyclone appears to be forming.

    Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    Northeast force 4 to 5.
    Some haze. Isolated squally showers and thunderstorms.
    Moderate seas.

    Nan'ao:
    North to northeast force 6 to 7, becoming force 8 later.

radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
