Bulletin issued at 18:36 HKT 31/Aug/2017
At 6 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 31 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 69 per cent.
During the past hour the mean UV Index recorded at King's Park was 0.4. The intensity of UV radiation was low.
Widespread heavy rain may affect Hong Kong shortly. Members of the public should be on the alert.
The tropical depression over the northeastern part of the South China Sea will linger around the sea areas to the west of Luzon and will be slow moving. It will keep a distance from Hong Kong tonight and at first tomorrow (Friday). The tropical cyclone is expected to intensify and move gradually in the general direction of eastern Guangdong to the Pearl River Estuary in the following couple of days. When the tropical cyclone takes on a more definite northerly track and edges closer to the coast of Guangdong, the Observatory will consider issuing the Standby Signal No. 1 during the day tomorrow (Friday). The weather on Saturday and Sunday is expected to deteriorate progressively with heavy squally showers over the coast of Guangdong. Winds will also strengthen gradually. Members of the public should be aware of possible changes in weather in planning activities on Saturday and Sunday.
Gusts reaching 80 kilometres per hour or above may continue to affect Hong Kong.
Please be reminded that:
The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 7:30 p.m. today. Squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong.
