Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong.

At noon, Tropical Depression Guchol was centred about 250 kilometres south of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait and weaken gradually later.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Sunny periods and isolated showers. Hot in the afternoon. Light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Outlook : A few showers in the next couple of days. Mainly fine during the weekend and early next week.

    Weather Situation:
    At noon, Tropical Depression Guchol with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 20.4 degrees north, 120.0 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest at about 12 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait and weaken gradually later.

     ISOL CUNIM/TS AND ASSOCIATED HAZARDS.
II.  SYNOPSIS OF THE WEATHER SITUATION :
     SHOWERS ARE AFFECTING THE COAST OF GUANGDONG AND
     THE NORTHERN PART OF THE SOUTH CHINA SEA.
     MEANWHILE, THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE OVER THE
     LUZON STRAIT HAS INTENSIFIED INTO A TROPICAL
     DEPRESSION AND WAS NAMED GUCHOL. AT 10 A.M.,
     GUCHOL WAS CENTRED NEAR 20.3 DEGREES NORTH,
     120.3 DEGREES EAST. IT IS FORECAST TO MOVE
     NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 6 KNOTS TOWARDS THE VICINITY
     OF THE TAIWAN STRAIT AND WEAKEN GRADUALLY LATER.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 060300 UTC, Tropical Depression Guchol (1717) with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two zero point four degrees north (20.4 N) one two zero point one degrees east (120.1 E) and is forecast to move northwest at about 6 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    Dissipated over sea.



    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

range of fluctuation of the background radiation level in
Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the
radiation monitoring stations over various parts of the

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
