Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The anticyclone aloft is bringing generally fine weather to southeastern China.

At 5 a.m., Tropical Storm Doksuri was centred about 40 kilometres north of Vientiane. It is forecast to move west-northwest at about 25 kilometres per hour across Indochina Peninsula and continue to weaken. Meanwhile, Typhoon Talim was centred about 530 kilometres west-southwest of Kagoshima. It is forecast to move northeast at about 10 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea towards Japan.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly fine apart from isolated showers at first. Very hot and hazy during the day. The maximum temperature will be about 33 degrees. Light winds.

Outlook : Fine and very hot tomorrow. Sunny periods early next week.

Weather Situation:
At 5 a.m., Typhoon Talim with maximum sustained winds of about 145 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 29.0 degrees north, 125.9 degrees east. It is forecast to move northeast at about 10 kilometres per hour across the East China Sea towards Japan.

The Airport Meteorological Office is responsible for monitoring hazardous weather and phenomena in the atmosphere that may affect the safety of aircraft operations within a designated airspace over the northern part of the South China Sea. Tropical Cyclone Warning

Typhoon Doksuri (1719) has weakened into a Severe Tropical Storm with central pressure 975 hectopascals. At 151200 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one eight point zero degrees north (18.0 N) one zero four point five degrees east (104.5 E) and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 60 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

No further warnings on this Severe Tropical Storm will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless it re-enters the Hong Kong area of responsibility.

Dissipated over land.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 150900 UTC, Severe Typhoon Talim (1718) with central pressure 950 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two eight point six degrees north (28.6 N) one two five point three degrees east (125.3 E) and is forecast to move northeast at about 5 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 85 knots.

Radius of over 33 knot winds 180 nautical miles.
Radius of over 47 knot winds 120 nautical miles.
Radius of over 63 knot winds 60 nautical miles.
Radius of over 2 metre waves 270 nautical miles.

No further warnings on this Severe Typhoon will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless it re-enters the Hong Kong area of responsibility.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
