Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The anticyclone aloft is bringing generally fine and very hot weather to southeastern China. Locally, temperatures over many places rose to about 33 degrees around noon.

At noon, Severe Tropical Storm Talim was centred about 60 kilometres northeast of Kagoshima. It is forecast to move northeast at about 35 kilometres per hour across Japan.

Weather forecast for this afternoon and tonight

Mainly fine and very hot but hazy. Light winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine in the next couple of days. Cloudier with a few showers in the middle and latter parts of this week.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
