Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon continues to bring generally fine weather to southern China.

Besides, the area of low pressure near the Philippines has intensified into a tropical depression. At 2 a.m., the tropical depression was centred about 390 kilometres south-southeast of Manila. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour towards the southern part of the South China Sea. Meanwhile, the tropical depression over the seas south of Vietnam was centred about 360 kilometres south of Ho Chi Minh City. It is forecast to move west slowly towards the Gulf of Thailand.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly fine. Cooler in the morning. The minimum temperature will be about 20 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Dry during the day with a maximum temperature of around 26 degrees. Moderate east to northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Mainly fine and dry in the following couple of days. Slightly cloudier during the weekend.

    Weather Situation:
    An intense northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 3 a.m., Tropical Depression near the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 11.1 degrees north, 121.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour towards the southern part of the South China Sea.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    An area of low pressure near the Philippines has intensified into a Tropical Depression with central pressure 1002 hectopascals. At 311800 UTC, it was centred within 90 nautical miles of one one point one degrees north (11.1 N) one two two point zero degrees east (122.0 E) and is forecast to move west at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
