Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon continues to bring fine weather to southern China.

At 8 p.m., the tropical depression near the Philippines was centred about 590 kilometres east-northeast of Nansha Dao. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour towards the southern part of the South China Sea. Meanwhile, the tropical depression over the seas south of Vietnam was centred about 370 kilometres south of Ho Chi Minh City. It is forecast to move west slowly towards the Gulf of Thailand.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Fine. The minimum temperature tomorrow morning will be about 21 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories. Dry during the day with a maximum temperature of around 28 degrees. Moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Becoming cloudy with a few rain patches in the following couple of days.

Weather Situation:
The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 7 p.m., the tropical depression near the Philippines with maximum sustained winds of about 45 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 11.6 degrees north, 119.8 degrees east. It is forecast to move west at about 20 kilometres per hour towards the southern part of the South China Sea.

Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
Northeast force 5 to 6.
Moderate to rough seas.

Nan'ao, Shanwei, South of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao:
Northeast force 6 to 7.
Rough seas.

North to northeasterly winds of force 6 to 7, up to force 8 later. Isolated showers and thunderstorms later.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 011200 UTC, Tropical Depression near the Philippines with central pressure 1002 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one one point six degrees north (11.6 N) one one nine point five degrees east (119.5 E) and is forecast to move west at about 10 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 25 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

Maximum winds 40 knots.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
