Bulletin updated at 00:45 HKT 11/Nov/2017

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An anticyclone aloft brought generally fine weather to southeastern China yesterday. Locally, it was mainly fine. Visibility over parts of the territory was rather low in the afternoon.

Besides, Haikui intensified from a tropical depression into a tropical storm yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, Haikui was centred about 520 kilometres east of Xisha. It is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour across the central part of the South China Sea and intensify gradually. The northeast monsoon is expected to strengthen slightly today and tomorrow. Under the combined effect of the monsoon and Haikui, it will be windy with rain over the south China coast and the northern part of the South China Sea early next week.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong

Cloudy periods in the morning and at night. Mainly fine during the day. Temperatures will range between 23 and 28 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore later.

Outlook : Windy with a few rain patches on Sunday and Monday.

(The above forecast period is valid up to 23:59 HKT today, 11/11/2017; Regular update at : around 45 minutes past each hour, 16:15 HKT and 23:15 HKT)

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
