Bulletin updated at 23:15 HKT 12/Nov/2017

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon affected the coast of southeastern China today. A broad band of clouds also covered the region. Locally, it was cloudy with occasional rain. More than 10 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over many places in the afternoon. Temperatures during the day were generally 3 to 4 degrees lower than those of yesterday. The northeast monsoon is expected to be replaced by an easterly airstream gradually midweek this week. Besides, Tropical Cyclone Haikui over the central part of the South China Sea weakened progressively from a tropical storm into an area of low pressure today.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Monday, 13 Nov 2017)

Cloudy with a few rain patches. Temperatures will range between 21 and 25 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to northeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore at first.

Outlook : Mainly cloudy in the following couple of days. Brighter in the latter part of this week.

(The above forecast period is valid up to 23:59 HKT tomorrow, 13/11/2017; Regular update at : around 45 minutes past each hour, 16:15 HKT and 23:15 HKT)

Bulletin issued at 21:30 HKT 12/Nov/2017

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 121200 UTC, Tropical Depression Haikui (1724) has weakened into an area of low pressure.

No further warnings on this area of low pressure will be issued by the Hong Kong Observatory unless regeneration takes place.

The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

Hong Kong (see Note). The average dose rates measured at the

territory were as follows :

Note
  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
