Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An intense winter monsoon is bringing cold weather to Guangdong.

At 8 p.m., Tropical Depression Kai-tak was centred about 340 kilometres south of Manila. It is forecast to move west-southwest at about 16 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Cloudy periods tonight and tomorrow morning. Cold with a minimum temperature of about 10 degrees in the urban areas, and a few degrees lower in the New Territories. Fine and very dry during the day tomorrow. The maximum temperature will be around 17 degrees. Moderate to fresh northerly winds.

Outlook : Fine and dry with cold mornings in the following couple of days. Temperatures rising slightly in the latter part of this week.

An intense winter monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

At 7 p.m., Tropical Depression Kai-tak with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located near 11.6 degrees north, 121.6 degrees east. It is forecast to move west-southwest at about 16 kilometres per hour across the Philippines.

Tropical Cyclone Warning

At 171200 UTC, Tropical Depression Kai-tak (1726) with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one one point five degrees north (11.5 N) one two one point five degrees east (121.5 E) and is forecast to move west-southwest at about 8 knots for the next 24 hours.

Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

  1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.
  2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert. Protective action may be required if there is an increase in the ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of 5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.
  3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
