Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

An easterly airstream is affecting the coast of Guangdong.

At 8 a.m., the tropical depression over the southern part of the South China Sea was centred about 190 kilometres east of Nansha Dao. It is forecast to move west at about 30 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

Weather forecast for today

Mainly fine. Becoming cloudy tonight. The maximum temperature will be around 22 degrees. Moderate easterly winds, fresh at times.

Outlook : Becoming cloudy with rain in the latter part of this week. The weather will become cold early next week.

    Weather Situation:
    An easterly airstream is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    The tropical depression over the southern part of the South China Sea was named Bolaven. At 9 a.m., Tropical Depression Bolaven with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 10.4 degrees north, 115.8 degrees east, it is forecast to move west at about 30 kilometres per hour in the general direction of the southern part of Vietnam.

    East force 4 to 5, occasionally force 6.
    A few rain patches later.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Nan'ao and Shanwei:
    East to northeast force 6 to 7.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 030000 UTC, Tropical Depression Bolaven (1801) with central pressure 998 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one zero point three degrees north (10.3 N) one one five point nine degrees east (115.9 E) and is forecast to move west at about 14 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    One zero point seven degrees north (10.7 N)
    One one zero point seven degrees east (110.7 E)
    Maximum winds 25 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.

    1. From readings taken at various locations in Hong Kong during
the period 1987-2016, the background ambient gamma radiation
levels may vary between 0.06 and 0.30 microsievert per hour.

    2. The extent of health effects to a person as a result of
exposure to radiation is expressed by a physical quantity
called equivalent dose, in unit of sievert.  Protective
action may be required if there is an increase in the
ambient gamma dose rate above background such that the total
additional dose is expected to exceed 5000 microsieverts in
a relatively short period of time. For example, a dose of
5000 microsieverts may be reached when the ambient gamma
dose rate is 1000 microsieverts per hour (several thousand
times above background) and lasts for 5 hours.

    3. The readings of ambient gamma radiation level from
instrument are expressed in unit of gray, which is
numerically equal to the gamma dose expressed in sievert.
