Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The squally showers associated with Tropical Cyclone Ewiniar affected the south China coast today. Locally, it was cloudy with heavy squally showers and thunderstorms. More than 70 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in many places, and rainfall even exceeded 150 millimetres over the northeastern part of the New Territories. The squally showers associated with Ewiniar will continue to affect the south China coast in the next couple of days.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Thursday, 7 Jun 2018)

Cloudy with squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times. Temperatures will range between 26 and 29 degrees. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. There will be swells.

Outlook : Squally showers and thunderstorms on Friday. Still a few showers over the weekend.

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Shangchuan Dao. Strong winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters, Nan'ao, Shanwei and south of Hong Kong.

    Weather Situation:
    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Ewiniar with maximum sustained winds of about 65 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 20.0 degrees north, 111.0 degrees east. It is forecast to be slow-moving and linger in the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula.

    Area forecasts for the next 24 hours

    Hong Kong Adjacent Waters:
    East to southeast force 5 to 6, occasionally force 7.
    Scattered squally showers and thunderstorms. Showers will be heavy at times.
    Moderate to rough seas.

    Tropical Cyclone Warnings

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Standby Signal, No. 1 is in force.

    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Ewiniar was estimated to be about 420 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 20.0 degrees north 111.0 degrees east) and is forecast to be slow-moving and linger in the vicinity of Leizhou Peninsula.

    Since Ewiniar maintains a distance of more than 400 kilometres from Hong Kong, the chance to issue the Strong Wind Signal, No.3 will not be high before 5 a.m. on Thursday.

    According to the present forecast track, Ewiniar is expected to edge closer to the western coast of Guangdong on Thursday. However, there is still uncertainty in the movement of Ewiniar. Depending on the variations in local winds, the Observatory will consider the need to change the tropical cyclone warning signal during the day on Thursday. Members of the public should pay close attention to the latest information on the tropical cyclone before going to work or school in the morning.

    Outer rainbands associated with Ewiniar will continue to bring heavy showers and squalls to Hong Kong in the next few days, with occasional strong winds over offshore waters and on high ground.

    1. Precautions should be taken. Drains should be cleared of obstructions, and windows and doors should be checked.

    2. There may be swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 061200 UTC, Tropical Storm Ewiniar (1804) with central pressure 995 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of one nine point nine degrees north (19.9 N) one one zero point seven degrees east (110.7 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 35 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 30 nautical miles.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 90 nautical miles.

    One one one point one degrees east (111.1 E)
    Maximum winds 40 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
