Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Tropical Storm Bebinca lingered around the seas south of the Pearl River Estuary today, and brought heavy squally showers and thunderstorms to the region. Locally, there were sunny intervals, occasional squally showers and thunderstorms. More than 30 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over many places. Bebinca is expected to edge closer to the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong today and tomorrow, and will continue to bring heavy squally showers and thunderstorms to the region.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Wednesday, 15 Aug 2018)

Fresh to strong east to southeasterly winds. Mainly cloudy with occasional squally showers and a few thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Seas will be rough with swells. Winds will moderate gradually later.

Outlook : There will still be showers in the following couple of days.

    Storm force winds in south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao. Gale force winds in Hong Kong adjacent waters and Shanwei. Strong winds in Nan'ao.

    Weather Situation:
    At 7 p.m., Tropical Storm Bebinca with maximum sustained winds of about 85 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 21.0 degrees north, 113.5 degrees east. It is forecast to move northwest slowly, gradually edging closer to the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong.

    Tropical Cyclone Warnings

    Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin

    Here is the latest Tropical Cyclone Warning Bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

    The Strong Wind Signal, No. 3 is in force.

    This means that winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometres per hour are expected.

    At 11 p.m., Tropical Storm Bebinca was estimated to be about 180 kilometres southwest of Hong Kong (near 21.0 degrees north 113.2 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest slowly, gradually edging closer to the vicinity of the coast of western Guangdong.

    In the past few hours, Bebinca moved slowly in a more westerly direction, slightly away from Hong Kong. The Observatory will issue Standby Signal, No. 1 in the next few hours.

    According to the present forecast track, Bebinca is expected to move further away from the territory on Wednesday. The Observatory will cancel all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals when Bebinca no longer poses a threat to Hong Kong.

    In the past hour, the maximum sustained winds recorded at Waglan Island and Tap Mun were 45 and 42 kilometres per hour respectively.

    1. Please take precautions now. Make sure objects likely to be blown away are securely fastened or taken indoors.

    2. Seas are rough and there are swells, you are advised to stay away from the shoreline and low-lying areas, and not to engage in water sports.

    3. Drains should be cleared of leaves and rubbish.

    4. Avoid staying in areas exposed to high winds. Drivers using highways and flyovers should be alert to violent gusts.

    5. Listen to radio, watch TV or browse the Hong Kong Observatory's website and mobile app for the latest information on the tropical cyclone.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 141200 UTC, Tropical Storm Bebinca (1816) with central pressure 984 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two one point zero degrees north (21.0 N) one one three point five degrees east (113.5 E) and is forecast to move northwest slowly for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 45 knots.

    Radius of over 33 knot winds 60 nautical miles over southern semicircle, 30 nautical miles elsewhere.
    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles over southern semicircle, 90 nautical miles elsewhere.

    One one one point zero degrees east (111.0 E)
    Maximum winds 50 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
