At 9 p.m. at the Hong Kong Observatory the air temperature was 26 degrees Celsius and the relative humidity 93 per cent.

Though rainstorm warning has been cancelled, people should stay alert to the danger that may be brought about by river flooding.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

A band of intense thundery showers is affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea. Locally, there were heavy showers and thunderstorms in the evening. More than 40 millimetres of rainfall were recorded in many places, and rainfall even exceeded 80 millimetres in the northern part of the New Territories. More than 5000 times of cloud-to-ground lightning strokes were recorded within Hong Kong. Besides, the area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea is bringing unsettled weather to the region.

At 8 p.m., Severe Typhoon Soulik was centred about 180 kilometres south-southwest of Jeju. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 16 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula. Meanwhile, Severe Typhoon Cimaron was centred about 840 kilometres southeast of Kagoshima. It is forecast to move north-northwest at about 32 kilometres per hour in the general direction of Japan.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy with occasional showers and a few thunderstorms. Sunny intervals tomorrow. Temperatures will range between 26 and 31 degrees. Light winds.

    The convective activities triggered by high temperatures are bringing thundery showers to the south China coastal waters. Meanwhile, the area of low pressure over the northeastern part of the South China Sea is bringing unsettled weather to the region.
