The Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. It will remain effective until 11:45 p.m. today. A few isolated squally thunderstorms are expected to occur over Lantau, Southern Waters and Islands of Hong Kong.

Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

Showers are affecting the coast of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea.

At 10 p.m., the tropical depression near Taiwan was centred about 160 kilometres southwest of Taibei. It is forecast to be slow-moving and linger around Taiwan. Meanwhile, Typhoon Cimaron was centred about 90 kilometres west-southwest of Osaka. It is forecast to move north at about 45 kilometres per hour across Japan. Typhoon Soulik has weakened into a severe tropical storm. At 10 p.m., Soulik was centred about 290 kilometres south of Seoul. It is forecast to move northeast at about 25 kilometres per hour across the Korean Peninsula.

Weather forecast for tonight and tomorrow

Mainly cloudy with occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 31 degrees tomorrow. Sunny intervals in the afternoon. Light winds.

Outlook : Sunny intervals and a few showers in the following couple of days.

    Showers and thunderstorms are affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 8 p.m., the tropical depression near Taiwan with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 23.8 degrees north, 120.5 degrees east. It is forecast to be slow-moving and linger around Taiwan.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 231200 UTC, the tropical depression near Taiwan with central pressure 994 hectopascals was centred within 60 nautical miles of two three point eight degrees north (23.8 N) one two zero point five degrees east (120.5 E) and is forecast to be slow moving for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 120 nautical miles.

    One two zero point four degrees east (120.4 E)
    Maximum winds 30 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
