Here is the latest weather bulletin issued by the Hong Kong Observatory.

The northeast monsoon affected Guangdong yesterday. Locally, it was mainly cloudy with a few showers. There were sunny periods in the morning. The tropical cyclone over the Luzon Strait is expected to move across the northern part of the South China Sea in the next couple of days, bringing unsettled weather to the coastal areas of Guangdong.

The area of low pressure over the Luzon Strait intensified into a tropical depression yesterday. At 11 p.m. last night, the tropical depression was centred about 110 kilometres south-southeast of Gaoxiong. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the Luzon Strait and enter the northern part of the South China Sea.

Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Tuesday, 11 Sep 2018)

Mainly fine but hazy. Hot during the day. Temperatures will range between 25 and 32 degrees. Light to moderate northeasterly winds.

Outlook : Windy with a few squally showers in the following couple of days.

    Weather information for south China coastal waters issued by the Hong Kong Observatory at 11:30 p.m. on 10 September 2018

    Warnings:
    Gale force winds in Nan'ao. Strong winds in Shanwei, south of Hong Kong and Shangchuan Dao.

    Weather Situation:
    The northeast monsoon is affecting the south China coastal waters.

    At 11 p.m., the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait with maximum sustained winds of about 55 kilometres per hour near its centre was located at 21.7 degrees north, 120.7 degrees east. It is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 12 kilometres per hour across the vicinity of the Luzon Strait and enter the northern part of the South China Sea.

    A few rain patches, some haze.

    Tropical Cyclone Warning

    At 101500 UTC, the tropical depression over the Luzon Strait with central pressure 1000 hectopascals was centred within 90 nautical miles of two one point five degrees north (21.5 N) one two zero point four degrees east (120.4 E) and is forecast to move west or west-southwest at about 6 knots for the next 24 hours.

    Maximum winds near the centre are estimated to be 30 knots.

    Radius of over 2 metre waves 60 nautical miles.

    One one seven point two degrees east (117.2 E)
    Maximum winds 35 knots.

    The Hong Kong Observatory's tropical cyclone warnings for shipping are issued about one and a half hours after the time of observation. They incorporate additional information derived from surface and upper-air data and may therefore be slightly different from the real-time satellite or radar-based positions given in the hourly bulletins for public.

    While the forecast positions and track indicate the most likely future path of the tropical cyclone, they may deviate from the actual path taken by the storm.
